For the past several years, the federal government has spent hundreds of millions of dollars promoting the development of electric cars. Now regulators are investigating whether the big battery packs used by GM's Volt model pose a safety risk in the event of an accident.

福島から県外への避難６万人突破　３カ月で約９千人増

　東日本大震災と東京電力福島第一原発事故の影響で福島県から県外に避難している人の数が、６万人を突破した。８月中旬に５万人を超えており、それから約３カ月で約９千人増えた。

　福島県によると、今月１６日時点の県外への避難者は、住民票を移している人と移していない人を合計して６万２５１人。県外避難者は、子どものいる家庭を中心に夏休み期間に急増したが、その後も増え続けているという。県内避難者は約９万３千人。

　福島県からはすべての都道府県に避難しており、山形県の１万２７３４人、東京都の７３１８人、新潟県の６５６９人、埼玉県の４７０５人の順に多い。この ３カ月間の伸び方をみると、埼玉県がほぼ倍増しており、神奈川県が約４４％増。大阪府約３１％増、宮崎県約３４％増、沖縄県約３３％増など、遠い地域への 避難者も増えている。
